How much is RM1.70 per day to you?
I've made a survey and eventually, RM1.70 per day is too little for all of them. When I ask the public "How much is RM1.70 per day to you?" these are the answers that I get :
"Too little lah! Where can survive?"
"Can't even buy a Gardinier bread. I pack also RM2.10 already"
"Can't even feed me for 1 meal, not to say 3 meals a day"
"Can buy me a pack of drinks when I'm really tired and hot walking under the sun"
"Hmm... I keep RM1.70 a day, 1 month I get RM50+!"
"Can't even buy a pack of smoke"
"I can make RM1.70 turn into RM1700 by winning the Magnum 4D!"
and much much more similar answers, well seems like RM1.70 per day for us is too little as for now. But did you all ever know that RM50 per month or in other words RM1.67 per day for a child in a poor community in countries like South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand, China and Lebanon is a lot?
World Vision Malaysia’s 3,000 Children in 3 Months campaign is a way for most of you all to participate. As RM1.70 is too little for you, not to say RM1.67 i assume... Under the sponsorship programme, individuals pledge RM50 a month to sponsor a child in a poor community in countries like South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand, China and Lebanon.
For a good cause: (Clockwise from top left) MixFM announcer Roshan, MYFM announcer Royce Tan, Deborah Henry and actress and World Vision ambassador Lee Sinje encouraging Malaysians to sponsor children during the World Vision child sponsorship talk at the Wawasan Open University in George Town on pass Saturday.
Its chief executive officer Liew Tong Ngan said 636 children had received sponsors in January after the campaign was launched earlier that month.
“We are a bit disappointed as we should be doing much better but things are difficult in the current economic situation. Hopefully, the numbers will pick up with the roadshow” he said after a World Vision Child Sponsorship talk at the Wawasan Open University here.
More than 50 people attended the talk and some of them of signed up to be sponsors.
Liew said the next stop for the roadshow would be Johor followed by Kuantan and Kuching.
World Vision Children’s Rights Advocate and former Miss Malaysia Deborah Henry, who spoke at the talk, said the campaign was to get sponsors for 3,000 children before March 31.
“World Vision abides by the philosophy that if you want to help a child, you have to also help their parents and the community,” said Deborah, who is sponsoring a child each in China, India and Cambodia.
“World Vision takes care of parents and the community by finding them jobs so the children can have a chance at an education,” she explained.
So what are you still waiting for? If you feel pledging RM1.67 a day or RM50 a month to help a poor kid is not too much for you, act now!!! More info at World Vision Malaysia's Official Website.
